View of the garden
Welcome
Speldhurst Nursery School is a long established nursery situated in the heart of Speldhurst Village. In September 2010 the nursery changed owner, and is now run by Elizabeth Pannell. Our sessions are held in the bright, spacious village hall which has direct access onto the recreation ground where there is a safe enclosed play area with swings, slides, climbing frame and a see-saw. Weather permitting; we use this on most days as we have enough rain coats for all the children. We have an enclosed garden adjoining the hall where the children plant spring bulbs, vegetables and other plants suitable for the season. Most are harvested later! We use the garden as a major part of our curriculum learning experience as well as a free play area. We aim to have constant access to the garden so children have the freedom to play and learn inside and out. There is an excellent kitchen in the hall with an oven which we use for cooking food prepared by the children. The hall has toilet, washing facilities for the children and also disabled facilities.
Please have a look at some photos of our recent activities on the photos page. The nursery prospectus and booking form are available here and on the documents page.
Aims
We provide a happy and caring environment for children aged 212 years until Primary School age. We aim to create an atmosphere in which children can develop as individuals, build self-esteem and confidence and also learn social skills by caring and sharing with others. We wish to give children the opportunity to learn through play and to reach their full potential in a safe, secure and stimulating environment.
New Parents
Starting nursery school is a new adventure for you and your child. It can, however, be a little unsettling for both of you. To ease your concerns we have posted a short guide as to what will happen on your child's first day at Speldhurst Nursery. You can download it by clicking here. We hope you find it useful.
Staff
We have twelve members of staff, most of whom have qualifications relevant to Early Years education. We also have a music teacher who visits us twice a week. All our members of staff are dedicated, enthusiastic and caring people. Staff frequently attend training courses to keep up to date with constantly changing curriculum and nursery ideas. There is a qualified first aider present at all times. All members of staff have been cleared by the Criminal Records Bureau.
